A graphing calculator for exploring functions
Plot functions in your browser and compare their shapes on one coordinate grid. Add up to eight expressions, choose radians or degrees, and change the parameter a to explore a family of curves. No account or download is required.
Start with an equation
Enter y=x^2 or simply x^2. Add another row to compare 2*x+1. Switch each curve off using its checkbox, or remove it with ×.
Explore the graph
Drag to move the coordinate grid. Use the zoom buttons or your mouse wheel to change the scale. Reset view centers the origin with equal axis scales and a vertical range of −10 through 10. Move or tap the graph to read approximate function values at x.
Save your work
Download a PNG image with the graph, equation legend and angle mode. Generate a values table for explicit y=f(x) functions and download it as CSV. Implicit equations and inequalities are labelled “y=f(x) only” in the table because they do not have one output per x. Expressions are stored in this browser when local storage is available; the table and viewport reset on reload.
Try a changing parameter
Enter a*sin(x) and move the a slider to change the amplitude. For x^2+a, the slider moves the parabola vertically. The table also uses the current value of a.
Worked examples
x^2: a parabola passing through (0, 0), (1, 1), and (2, 4).sin(x)in RAD mode: a wave with period 2π.sqrt(x): real values only for x ≥ 0.1/x: undefined at zero; the two branches must remain separate.x^2+y^2=25: a circle centered at the origin with radius 5.y>x: the region above the line y=x, with a dashed boundary.log(x): base-10 logarithm;ln(x)is the natural logarithm.
Frequently asked questions
Which equations can I graph?
Explicit real functions y=f(x), including powers, roots, trigonometric functions, logarithms, absolute values, and constants. Use * for multiplication when needed. Implicit equations such as x^2+y^2=25 and inequalities such as y>x or x^2+y^2<=25 are also supported. Use one relation per row. Strict inequalities use dashed boundaries; inclusive inequalities use solid boundaries. Polar graphs and 3D surfaces are not supported.
Why does a curve have gaps?
A function may be undefined for part of its domain, such as sqrt(x) at negative x or 1/x at zero. Functions use numerical sampling; implicit curves and shading use an approximate triangular grid. Positive integer powers equal to zero, such as (x^2+y^2-25)^2=0, are reduced before plotting. Very small closed curves, isolated points, and other repeated-factor forms may still be missed. The plot breaks at detected discontinuities. Very narrow features can be missed; zoom in and verify with the values table.
Does it solve equations exactly?
No. This is a numerical function plotter, not a symbolic algebra or proof system. Trace and table values are approximate. Check important results independently.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The controls stack above the graph on a small screen. Expand Math keypad to enter an expression with the on-screen buttons, or tap an expression field to type with your keyboard.
